Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need a Personal Trainer?
Everyone can benefit from having a personal trainer. By hiring one, you will instantly make a huge step forwards to leading a healthier lifestyle that will give you more energy, will allow you to move easier and be stronger so that you can enjoy the things you like doing. You can exercise without one, but any trainer can offer a more efficient way of achieving your goals whilst offering support along your journey.
Why should I train with you?
I offer a holistic approach when training my clients with an attention to detail I’ve not witnessed with many other trainers. I will ensure that you are moving correctly and safely before I progress you. I am easily contactable if you have any questions when we’re apart, and the training app included provides you with all the information you need to train alone. Whether your goals are moving freely again, getting stronger or slimmer, or running further, I am more than capable of helping you.
Will you put me on a diet or stop me from smoking/drinking?
I do encourage a healthier lifestyle. However, everyone is different and starting a new exercise routine is a HUGE change to your lifestyle already. I tell my clients to not worry about their diet at the start and instead focus on forming habitual exercise. When established, small changes to your diet and smoking or drinking are encouraged. I take this slower approach because it’s more sustainable for most people, and by the end of it, you’re not on a diet; that’s just how you eat!
How do you deal with the needs of your clients?
I take things at my client's pace, and if they need extra time and space, I give them that. I have worked with people who don’t like being in a gym environment or lack confidence in their ability. I tailor my lessons to the client's strengths.
What happens during a training session?
During a training session, I will talk through what you’re about to do and demonstrate each exercise as much as you need. Whilst you’re exercising, I will be looking at how you hold yourself during the exercise and will offer pointers on how to improve. I’ll be able to gauge how hard you’re working by how you perform, as well as asking you. This is so each exercise can be adapted as needed. The range and structure of exercises will vary for everyone but I am always looking at and reviewing what you do to ensure you progress and remain injury free.
How do you stay in shape?
I stay in shape exercising regularly predominantly using kettlebells. I actively compete in Kettlebell Sport in an event called the Biathlon. This is made up of 2 exercises that are performed continuously for 10 minutes each. Outside of competitive kettlebell lifting, I also use them for general strength and conditioning. Lastly, I’m also an endurance runner, covering distances from 5km up to 100km.
What is your training philosophy?
To train using your body in the way it's made to be used. What do I mean by this? A lot of training methods break the body down into its constituent parts, to work one bit of the body at a time. The body is supposed to be used as a whole and everything is connected. When training holistically, everything functions better and is kept in balance.
Why are you a Personal Trainer?
Since breaking my kneecap I've been hooked on exercise. I've also always enjoyed helping people. I became a personal trainer through my love of exercise and enjoy helping people. Now I've been one for years, I still really enjoy watching my clients achieve things they thought impossible, whether that's losing 20kg of fat, performing their first pull up, no longer being diabetic or even putting on their socks.
